Belated write-up of 8 Spruce Street, where we had a great set of tours. After starting in the sales unit, we looked at several unit types on different floors, each of which is themed. The views on the upper floors, as expected, are extraordinary. What was unexpected was how little of the undulating facade comes through on the interior (I suppose this is good or bad, depending on your taste). Sabrina, one of our DDers, was at Gehry Partners during schematic design, so she gave us some great insight into the process.
We were also lucky enough to end with a visit (including drinks!) to the ever-gorgeous Woolworth Building, where we got to see 8 Spruce in all of its glory (it stands between Woolworth and the Brooklyn Bridge) from Biber Architects’ space on the 20th floor. For me, this was the best vantage point (thanks, Jim, for hosting us!).
For those who saw it during construction, Jim’s office is now fully renovated and looks amazing.
