The team behind Via Verde took on a challenging (in shape, grade, easements, etc.) brownfield site and turned it into a gem. The 50/50 venture of a non-profit and for-profit developer working with London-based architects (Phipps Houses, Jonathan Rose Companies, Dattner Architects and Grimshaw, respectively) is a thoughtful, well-designed, sustainable project that ignores the traditional, parochial definitions of affordable housing. The complex includes a variety of building types (townhouse, mid-rise, tower) both for rent and sale. Not only did we see the communal garden, green roofs, expansive interiors & fantastic views in the beautiful early evening light, but the building geeks among us also checked out the boiler room.
Many thanks to Karen, Darrell & Mike for a great tour!
